Now That’s Bold: The Kardashian/Jenner family is adjusting to life with Caitlyn Jenner who transition from a male to a female earlier this year in a very public manner — first with the historic Diane Sawyer interview and then with a stunning Vanity Fair cover.
That makes this Father’s Day bittersweet for the family, who said goodbye to Bruce Jenner, but not without his promise that he would always be “Dad” to his children.
On Sunday, June 21, Kendall took to Instagram to honor that sentiment in a touching throwback photo of her being kissed on the cheek as a child by her father.
“my whole life this soul was my daddy and just because your appearance is different now doesn’t mean you were any less of a father to me my entire life,” the supermodel wrote. “happy Father’s Day to the person who raised me, and taught me everything I know, my hero.”
Kendall, 19, wasn’t the only family member to reach out on social media for the holiday. Khloe Kardashian also shared a picture of Bruce with the late Robert Kardashian via Instagram, writing,
“Thank you Lord for blessing me with not one phenomenal father but I was lucky enough to have two. Happy Father’s Day!!!”
Kylie Jenner also took to Instagram to honor her dad, sharing a picture with sister Kendall and mom Kris Jenner with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day my little light of sunshine. ‘You can still call me dad, Kylie. No matter what I’m always going to be your father. That’s never going to change.'”
Transgender issues in America are just starting to surface in mainstream. But, the truth is that we don’t really know how many Americans actually identify as transgender (Live Science, 2015).
Did you know? Forty-one percent of transgender people surveyed in Injustice at Every Turn said they had attempted suicide, compared with 1.6 percent of the general population. Risk increased for those who reported bullying, sexual assault and job loss (Washington Post, 2015).
Also, Transgender respondents to a survey from The Washington Post were nearly four times more likely to have a household income of less than $10,000, compared to the general population (Washington Post, 2015)
Recently we wrote an article about celebrity weight loss and female discrimination in the workplace due to attractiveness. We mentioned Jenner with regard to her criticism after her transformation. For those unaware of the term, gender identity discrimination means treating individuals differently in the workplace, or taking negative employment action against them because of their gender identity or gender expression (workplacefairness.org).
