Emily Treischel has a very important question for you! Are you big and beautiful? Because, unless you’re independently wealthy, you may have an issue keeping your wardrobe up to date! There are a few designers/models out there like Hunter McGrady who are trying to make being plus affordable. But, what about the rest of your wardrobe?
“We are tired of all the ‘slim pickings’ for plus size women in Reno,” says Treischel. “So we are doing something about it.”
Join Emily and her friends at Big, Beautiful, and Broke! They are clothing swaps where you can exchange your gently used clothes in sizes 12/14 and up for awesome new-to-you items!
“I host clothing swaps 3 times a year,” says Trieschel. “We allow women sizes 14 and up to drop off their donations ahead of time and we offer them swap credit based on the value of their items. We then organize, hang and ‘price’ the items. On swap day, women come in and shop. Everything is hung on clothing racks by size so it is super easy to shop!”
Big, Beautiful, and Broke usually has vendors as well and tons of raffle prizes There are lots of volunteers helping! And, every time they do an event, they sponsor a local charity, donating some of the funds generated.
Treischel says that the idea to do swaps came to her in 2012. This Summer, they are holding their 10th swap! Date and time to be decided! We’ve reached out in hopes that she can spare some time for one of our infamous interviews. Fingers crossed ladies!
