Advocacy Plus Activism

Beginning nearly 8 years ago, Bold Magazine, the crown jewel property of Bold Media Inc. has since covered women’s sports, business, media, and fashion. Having switched solely to plus size news in 2014, CEO Christopher Salute showed he was ready to take the leap as a straight, white, cisgender, male in a new and highly diverse space, a leap that was not without challenges. In 2018, Salute has presented all over the country and worked with some of the nation’s leading body positivity and plus activists.

A Journey Through Image

Cheyenne Atkinson, no stranger to the negative societal connotations around plus-size women, briefly discussed the rigors of being plus sized dating all the way back to middle school, “[I] was a 240 pound 7th grader. People started to make fun of me and call me names constantly I used to come home in tears crying to my mom because I couldn’t understand why no one liked me or wanted to be friends – instead they just wanted to put me down.” Atkinson has become an advocate for body positivity and plus women activism ever since she began her modeling career after high school. Inspiring many plus-sized women who desired to aid her cause, the 22-year old model founded the PHAat Girls yyc movement through her Instagram platform in order to help plus-sized women feel more comfortable in their bodies.

PHAat Gets Bold

Bold Media is ecstatic to welcome Atkinson as the new Director of Business Development. The Alberta native’s previous experience over the past year as an advertising account manager will be vital to the continued growth of Bold Magazine in the plus movement. As per her new role, Atkinson’s advertising experience as well as her determination and devotion to plus activism in society will prove valuable in her many responsibilities including advertising sales, event sponsorships, social media advertising, client development, and linking brands with plus size consumers, models, influencers. CEO Christopher Salute explains best the positive impact that the PHAat yyc founder will bring to Bold Zine, “”We are so excited to have Cheyenne on board at Bold. She is truly a boss. We’ve been watching her grow over the past few years and it was only a matter of time before we linked up, professionally. [Cheyenne] brings a true understanding of the plus space, of the sales process, and of customer service to the team at Bold Media.”
