Bold Makes Big Announcement!

Extended Size Powerhouse Rebecca “Bex” Bedford Joins Evolving Bold Media

The Following is a press release from Bold Media

June 1 – Bold Moves in the Making! Bold Introduces New Chief Operating Officer, Rebecca “Bex” Bedford, to the Executive Team!

Pushing the Plus Movement

Beginning nearly 8 years ago, Bold Magazine, the crown jewel property of Bold Media Inc. has covered women’s sports, business, media, and fashion. Having switched solely to plus size news and information in 2014, CEO Christopher Salute showed he was ready to take the leap as a straight, white, cisgender, male in a new and highly diverse space… a leap that was not without challenges. In 2017 and 2018, Salute presented all over the country and worked with some of the nation’s leading body positivity and plus activists. Now, in 2019, Salute and the rest of the Bold family are looking to make an even bigger impact in the plus universe and community through their events, publications, clothing line, and new Brand Management company.

Who Needs Labels?

Being a Self-Acceptance Champion, Body Positive Activist, Public Speaker, and Entrepreneur, Rebecca “Bex” Bedford started her vlog channel, “Being an SSBBW,” on YouTube in 2013. It quickly gained traction garnering hundreds of thousands of views. In her videos, she speaks frankly about all facets of life as a person of extended size including her struggles and triumphs with self-love and self-acceptance as well as topical commentary on current events in the plus size world.

After years of vlogging as Rebecca of “Being an SSBBW,” the YouTuber no longer felt connected to the name. SSBBW translates to “Super Sized Big Beautiful Woman”, an acronym that no longer felt representative of her message, but instead felt more exclusive, focusing too much on looks, size, and gender.

In 2019, Bex made the leap to change her brand from “Being an SSBBW” to Bex Bedford. Choosing Bex, a long time nickname, afforded Rebecca the ability to just be herself, not bound by any one notion, label, or group. It allowed her to be her true, authentic self.

Taking a Bold Step Forward

In addition to her work on her brand, Bex has also been an active member in the size-acceptance community for the past six years. In 2014, she joined the staff at Living Large Chicago and in 2015, was moved to the position of Social Media Manager. Working with LLC helped her to come out of her shell even more and revealed how important the role of size-acceptance groups are to self-acceptance and the plus community as a whole

In 2019, Bex made the difficult decision to leave her position as Social Media Manager at Living Large and made the leap with Bold Media, Inc. as both an employee and equity sharing partner. The new organization, Incorporated in Las Vegas, NV is to be called Bold Holdings, Inc. Joining Bold was the next natural step for Bex on her onward journey to expand the plus size community, spread the message of body positivity, and bring the size-acceptance movement to the mainstream. The scalability of Bold brings the ability for Bex to make her message louder and clearer.

Bold Media is thrilled to welcome Bex Bedford as our new COO! Her prior experience as a vlogger and Social Media Manager at LLC will certainly bring a huge boost to Bold on our mission for the advocacy of the plus size community. CEO Christopher Salute expressed his joy at the hiring. [He] says, “To say that we are excited to have Bex Bedford on our team would be an understatement. Sometimes you don’t know what you need until it jumps up and smacks you in the face. Bex is a much needed member of this team and rounds out our incredible group of passionate people of the plus universe.” Other members of the Executive team include Salute, Emily Kay, Director of Administration and Events and Alyssa Roesnch as Director of Special Projects. Candice Christian has also recently joined the team as the Bold Brand Management Talent Coordinator and Randall Taylor has signed on as Staff Writer. Bold is currently in talks with a Social Media Manager, as well.

The Bold Media founder also described how ‘this pivotal step marks a new era as the newly formed Bold Holdings comes about to replace Bold Media.’  He finished by proudly appreciating how far his hard work has brought him. “My dream of constructing the stage and sitting in the audience to listen is finally being realized. Now, we can focus on making the stage larger and more visible. Thank you Bex for trusting Bold with your energy.”
