If you’re like me… and few people are, you watch television shows about 900 days after they’ve wrapped up. Literally catching up on Season 5 of Game of Thrones as I edit this magazine. But, someone introduced me to The Umbrella Academy, recently, and I could not stop watching! It was too much fun. It’s apparently an unfinished comic series that was purchased immediately after the first few books were written. The writer is feverishly writing more books so that Netflix can create more episodes. So, we can’t wait.
But, there’s an awesome little Easter Egg in there, too! Almost every single episode features aspecific character who pops up in various disguises, costumes, or outfits. We have no idea why and she’s only credited in 3 episodes (though she’s in a lot more). While her character name varies depending on the site (and is often uncredited), Heather Sanderson is the human who plays her in real life. And, guess what… she’s plus sized!
Look… we love TV shows like Dietland and Shrill. Strong badass female leads who are also plus, great plots, funny, etc. But, we need MORE humans who are representing women of size. That’s why Bold is introducing the Bold Media Spotlight. Heather Sanderson is our first. Sanderson is an actress, known for The Umbrella Academy (2019), Schitt’s Creek (2015) and Bad Santa 2 (2016)! She’s quite funny, super cool, and we love this character she plays in The Umbrella Academy. We need more Heather Sanderson!
