Lilith Fury Campaigns to be the first Size 28 Supermodel (A Beautiful You Article)

Halloween is a fun day to pretend we are someone else. But, on November 1st, we stop pretending and remember who we are. That doesn’t mean we can’t still aspire to do something different or greater!

That’s exactly what Lilith Fury decided, this week. You may have seen Lilith featured on some of our sites and pages. This week, Fury has decided that she wants to be the world’s first size 28 supermodel! Wow!

“I had written that I wanted to be the first size 28 super model, as well as how important fat liberation, and fat acceptance activism is to me.”

But, wait, don’t we already have a size 28 supermodel? Not really. You may be thinking Tess Holliday is already there. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Shes probably pretty close! But, supermodels are at the top tier of pay and popularity of the models in the industry. Holliday was on the cover of “Cosmopolitan UK” which has a smaller readership than their US counterpart. And, while she’s a polarizing and popular figure in the Plus Size Universe, Holliday would not be considered a supermodel by mainstream standards (that stinks, we totally get it). She also is listed as a size 22 on many sites, although many say that she is a size or two larger in many clothing options (She’s said she’s a size 26, before, which could also be true depending on the brand). The closest human in plus to a supermodel would be Ashley Graham, due to her popularity And mainstream “acceptance” which is a silly thing to have to even think about! And, her measurements and proportions are much more traditional than Holliday’s. We’ve seen her listed as a size 16.

“Sometimes I feel like maybe I’m not making any difference, and that all I have to say just falls on deaf ears.”

Well some folks have taken note. Chris Gorham, an American actor who is best known for the ABC series Ugly Betty, shouted out Lilith on Instagram.

He has also appeared in such series as Insatiable, Popular, Odyssey 5, Felicity, Jake 2.0, Medical Investigation, Out of Practice, Harper’s Island, Covert Affairs, and Once Upon a Time.

“It really meant a lot to get that encouragement booster from Chris. Being told that my activism was important, and bringing forth a positive change, really made me smile. Being told that he believed I would make it as a super model was just icing on the cake.”

It’s great when mainstream media comprehends and supports plus advocacy. The debate continues on the necessity of it. Some folks push back on that validation. Others embrace it. Fury clearly is making heads turn and we’re so glad that she is making an impact!
