Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” – Mary Oliver, “The Summer Day”I’m sure many of you are familiar with this question, the closing challenge to Oliver’s beloved 1992 poem. It is loved by millions. It is a phrase that I’ve often asked myself over the past few years, as I left a career that was “comfortable”, but destroying me, and sought something less stable, but far more joyful.I recently read that the quote (and poem itself) has been snidely referred to as “catnip to the inspiration-seeking set.” I didn’t like that. I don’t know about you, but I find it a bit ridiculous when a valid, beautiful sentiment is dismissed because it’s popular- because too many people relate to it. Don’t all great movements start because of a shared motivation, a common goal,  or a united desire to make things better? That’s why Bold exists. We saw people who were told they didn’t “fit in”- in the literal and metaphorical sense. So we created a place for them, their stories, and their bodies. We hope you’ll enjoy our new format. Our goal is to provide our readers with more than just a site, but a community. We hope you’ll visit us to hear about interesting trends and issues in the Fat Positivity world, but also to share your thoughts on how Bold can continue to improve our advocacy efforts. We also want you to enjoy yourselves and tell us what makes you Bold! We are working hard to center all marginalized voices and shine a light on the influencer that lives within us all. Thanks for being here, for being Bold and for sharing your one wild and precious life with us.
